sure. it's 'legal' for a bank to charge a customer 79% on a credit card. it's also 'legal' for this same bank to let you run up a balance on your credit card, and then - after loaning you the money - change the terms of that loan. both of these things are immoral, wrong and unethical and used to be considered usury, and were illegal but thanks to the 'legal' bribery system that exists in our politican system (campaign contributions) the law was changed. bribery, by the way, is also immoral, but is legal in many forms in our nation. it's not immoral to go five miles an hour over the speed limit, but it is illegal. it's not immoral to have a beer at age 18 (when you can go and die for your nation) but it is illegal. it's not immoral to cross the street away from a crosswalk (jaywalking) but it is illegal. in fact, many of our laws are not aimed at a criminal element at all - they are aimed at us, so that the govt can get a few bucks from us (parking tickets) or support an increasingly predatory prison 'industry.' arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning someone for smoking pot, (enforcement of a 'law') is itself immoral. a very high percentage of inmates in prisons are there for marijana related crimes - something that you can grow in your garden, but is 'illegal' for vastly irrational reasons. the prison system that incarcerates them is more and more often a privately owned and for profit business. it's lobbyists for this business who is now very active in preventing logical and sensible laws to be passed with regards to smoking pot. this means that sometimes those enforcing the laws and punishments meeted out by the courts are themselves immoral because of the nature of the system.
