to enhance their abilities...why is it that Rafael Palmeiro is going to be the only one barred (deservingly so) from the Hall Of Fame? I mean, is the fact he was the only one that actually got caught the reason? Because honestly we all KNOW Bonds and Mcguire used, so why shouldnt they be excluded too?

Palmeiro was NOT iffy to get in HOF, the people here saying that need to get a clue...he has 500plus HRs and 3000 hits.. Plmeiro was a sure fire HOF'er. But now, he wont go, and its because he is only huge star to get caught..my point was simply we all KNOW they used, even if we didnt see bonds and Mcgwire inject, we know they used, if they went into court, Bonds and Mcwire would BOTH be convicted because of the circumstantial evidence lol

and by circumstantial i mean Bonds Association with a company that has been indicted for producing AND supply Designer steroids... aNd Mcgwire, well Canseco said he injected Mcgwire, and that alone is not cause to believe Mcgwire guilty, but Canseco ALSO said he injected Rafael Palmeiro...and look were that went.

None of these guys have appeared on a Hall of Fame ballot yet... so no one really knows whether or not Mark McGwire or Barry Bonds will be kept out of the HOF. Mark McGwire, is definitely not in good standing with the Baseball Writers Association of America (the people who do most of the voting...) after breaking down into tears in the courtroom. While he was never "caught" or "convicted" of using steroids, it's basically a widely accepted fact that he was indeed a user. and the BBWAA know this and will most definitely consider it while placing their votes.

Similar story for Bonds. He was never officially "caught" using steroids, but his personal trainer has gone to jail twice for refusing to cooperate with the court concerning Bonds' case. You would think maybe he's trying to hide something... Even though Bonds technically does hold the single season home run record, most true baseball fans don't acknowledge this. True fans will tell you the record is 61 and it was done by Roger Maris, without the help of steroids. If Bonds does indeed break the all-time home run record, it will be very interesting to see how the media responds. As with McGwire, most people know the truth: Bonds used steroids.

With Palmeiro, he was the only one officially "caught" and punished. The fact that he was directly punished by the MLB is what does him in. This certifies him as being a "cheater," which should not only bar him from the HOF by voters, but should infact make him ineligable for HOF membership.

Baseball will not test Bonds because of the home run race. Baseball realizes that Bonds is a cash cow and will not do anything to upset the apple cart. I blame that idiot Bud Selig and his inability to stand up to the owners.

McGwire admitted several years ago to taking a then non restricted compound of some sort proven later to contain steroids. His bash brother Jose said in his book that that was only the tip of the iceberg. McGwire was so deep into it that he dare not talk about it at the hearings last year. (Big Cry Baby).

As far as Palmeiro is concerned, he never got a meaningful hit in his entire career. He played for second division teams and never dealt with playoff pressure. His stats, even without steroids were compiled in meaningless games. His career was a lot like Ernie Banks.

The biggest issue is the Bonds situation. The almighty dollar is the only reason Bonds is allowed by baseball to continue to play and it's a disgrace.

Palmeiro has the distinction of having tested positive. The rest is just presumption. It will be interesting to see how McGwire fairs in the next balloting. Personally I don't feel he should get in since he only cared about home runs and was a terrible hitter. Bonds had HOF numbers before he allegedly started using steroids. I hate Bonds but he is a HOF player. Palmeiro has HOF numbers but actually was caught cheating. Whether it is the Black Sox or Palmeiro, cheating is cheating. If Palmeiro, Sosa, McGwire or Bonds go in so should Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose who didn't cheat but bet on the Reds to win.

palmeiro would have had a tough time making it without the steroids. McGwire probably won't make it he didn't do anything except hit homeruns. his career average is horrible. something like .260. bonds has never been proven so he makes it in. plus he could break the all time record. bonds does have talent. without steroids he would still be a plus .300 hitter. he would average about 20 to 30 homers a year. he had some power in the late 80s but he never became a serious threat until later. so bonds probably still would have been a 500 HR and 500 SB guy and would make the hall of fame.

Palmeiro was a question mark to get into the hall of fame to begin wtih.
The guy was in the exclusive 3000+ hit, 500+ HR club, there was no way he was missing the hall of fame. But lets face it, the guy was an idiot. He used a type of steroids that was easy to detect when they were testing players. As with Bonds, it is impossible to bar him unless there is hard evidence. He played it smart, what more can be said about that? But where did you hear that he was banned in the first place? I dont think he has been.

At some point, I still think Palmeiro will make the HOF. Obviously not on the first ballot, but I think the voters will eventually forgive him and let him in before his eligibility expires -- his numbers are too good to ignore, steroids or not. As for McGwire and Bonds, they were too good for too long to be ignored and without 100% proof of them using, I think it's unfair to "convict" them. McGwire might not make it this year, but he'll be in by 2010 for sure, and Bonds is a first ballot choice NO MATTER WHAT...

From the baseball writers who have been on radio talks shows (a very inexact way of measuring sentiment), McGwire is not likely to be voted into the Hall of Fame this year. Look for Tony Guinn and Cal Ripken on the first ballot. McGwire acted like a Mafia operative when he refused to testify before Congress in March 2005, effectively taking the 5th.

Steroids and HGH are/were rampant in MLB. Not only were the big time sluggers juiced, but so were pitchers. WHO CARES. It's just a friggen game. There's been cheating in baseball since it's begining. There are known cheating pitchers (that used to doctor the ball) in the HOF. As long as the contracts are so big and the prize for wining is so grand, people will do whatever it takes. The risk/reward ratio favor's the reward far too much for proffesional athletes to not try and find an edge.
