You're right. It is kind of silly, but its not at all stupid. Kids your age see someone they like and become girlfriend and boyfriend for a while and then break up. Its kind of a trial type of thing that some kids that age do. They don't think its a trial type of thing when they do it, but that's what it is. Its a safe way to have a boyfriend or girlfriend for a while and to act on an attraction to another person without having things get all serious.

Strangely, if the kids were dumber or less mature they may actually stay together; but because they're just right for their age they don't. Middle-school kids don't usually meet the person they'll stay with at that age. Kids who are dumber or less mature or less emotionally well adjusted may get all serious and in too deep with someone; but the kids you're talking about are doing what is exactly right for that age.

If they "go out" for a week or even a month they get to enjoy having a boyfriend or girlfriend and then move on. Its kind of nice, actually - even if it can seem stupid if you really analyze what they're doing.

I'm in middle school and I thinks it's stupid too. I mean where can you go and what can you do? I'm looking forward to having a car and being able to date.

I started dating my husband in middle school...obviously, we didn't break upafter a week, lol. We never broke up once all throughout our school years. I think kids at that age are more attatched to the social standing it brings them ('going out', 'i have a boyfriend'), much rather to the person themself. Of course, I was never like that...I guess it all depends on your maturity level, as well as self awareness.

Unfortunately, I know no one who looks back at middle school and thinks they were completely sane. The important thing is to establish priorities, so you don't make bad decisions while you're still very young.

i'm high schooler but I went through the same thing. It's funny and sort of dumb. Me and my other friends used to just watch. This one girl went out with 50% of the boys in my grade all in 2 weeks. CRAZY.

Sounds to me like you are a bit more emotionally mature than the kids who decide that if they ask someone out, they are an item......It's a good thing there are still kids like you around, keep up the good work and the sound judgement.......Take care, hun....

I really don' tget that. Middle school "dating isn't really anything. It's basically saying that they like each other. I htink that it's stupid...whatever
