why do we need a president

Three branches of government (as currently organized). Someone needs to run the executive branch. It could just as easily have been a parliamentary prime minister (chosen by Congress), or an Executive Council (say 3 people, equal votes).

Well, primarily to deal with foreign heads of state, so even if you don't think you need a president, our nation needs a strong leader to deal with the international community. The president is the head of the executive branch of government, too, and without the branches of government providing checks and balances and each doing their job, we really wouldn't have a government, and we would cease to exist as an established nation. The rule of law would go out the window.

To have a leader. Without a leader, anarchy and chaos rule. It is as simple as that.
If you think we have chaos now, just imagine not having any leadership. What a nightmare that would be! I would rather have lousy leadership than none at all in the White House.
