Has anyone ever heard the story that a confederate train filled with copper, gold, silver, and steel was crossing a bridge that was spanning the TN river somewhere between Loudoun and Lenoir City, TN, when the bridge fell in and the train sank? Nobody I have talked to knows exactly where it is, only that the confederacy was doing poorly so they basically asked for donations of silver, gold, and copper, but the train carrying it all sunk in the TN River and was NEVER salvaged. ...Then again...nobody knows what its worth either or who would claim it should it be located.

It's an urban legend. There were dozens of train wrecks and derailments during the war.

The only money the confederates had was about 100K in gold that they hid on two wagon trains. The confederates were flat out running out of food, money, clothes and supplies. To think that they had a fortune in copper, gold and silver in a train is a little out there.

That's pretty interesting. I wonder if it's an urban myth from a long time ago though. But, if it's not and someone were to pull it out I think it should go to the Northeastern states as payment for putting them through all that cr.ap.

Hunley is genuine, yet what no person has advised you is that it replaced into pedal-pushed and had no source of oxygen. the full group were wiped out on an ordeal run, and so have been those courageous men who succeeded. according to hazard i'm somewhat claustrophobic, yet i won't be able to think of of plenty worse than being in a submarine, however if German or US, decrease than intensity can charge assault. yet this replaced into worse.

Must be an older urban legend of the south....I heard a similar story regarding an area in Mid-East Arkansas.

It was never salvaged because it was never wrecked. It was stolen by the Union and diverted to the north.
