It's human nature to be afraid of the unknown.

I think that it is mostly because of fear and, for want of a better word, ignorance. People do not research things before they judge. Wicca is stereotyped as Satanic, evil, etc. in the movies and otherwise and people can't see past that. If you experience this, tell them to go to http://www.religioustolerance.com/ and learn more about the religion before they judge, but just remember that a lot of people will never change their minds. You just have to look over this.

I don't think anyone is afraid of wicca. It's just a bunch of lame teenagers getting together trying to shock people. I think they WANT to be scary, so they can get attention and feel different, like they are special. And they want to freak out thier christian parents, maybe. But, most ppl think 'wiccans' are just a joke, along with the other goths.

Because they call themselves "witches", and this word and it's equivalent has a negative connotation in every language.

I think they should be pittied more than feared. They aren't really witches, they're just self deluded into believing they have magic powers.

'Cuz their gullible little brains are filled with centuries' worth of bull about how witches worship the devil and can make you sick, can make your baby be born a moron, can make your cow deliver a two-headed calf, can make all the farmers' crops fail - in other words, they fear that which is "different", usually without a shred of evidende. I've known two witches (wiccans), and one was the most achingly beautiful woman I've ever known. She was dynamite in bed, too. I wanted to marry her, but she had other ideas *sob!*

Because Christians made it scary. Ooh environmentalists for all intents and purposes who essentially pray to the earth and all it's natural phenomena must be evil. Get your guns Bessy!!

Unfortunately people are afraid because they are ignorant. If people have the correct information instead of there own perceptions perhaps they would understand without prejudice.
