I'm a collection attorney in California. They've filed a motion for an assignment order. California has very broad law the allow court to order a judgment debtor's income form a variety of sources to be paid to the judgment creditor.
In this case, they are asking the court to take O.J.s ability to earn money form his name and reputation and assign it to them. If OJ makes an appearance at a speaking engagement, they can go after it. If he gets royalties form movies he's been in, they can go after that too. It is a very broad statute and it just might work.

yes, they can sue for the right to use O.J.'s name and likeness as if it were their own.
When someone becomes a celebrity, they have a right to not have their likeness or name used to endorse things they are not endorsing, so they get the right to "sell" that image etc. for commercial purposes. There is quite a bit of money in it for the families of people like Sinatra and Princess Di, just to name a couple.
Since OJ has been purposefully NOT working so that he "has no income" other than his pension which cannot be touched by the Goldman's their argument is that he is "capable of paying" but is refusing to. So, they want this so they can make the money he won't.
I don't know if they will be successful or not, I'd like to see it happen since I don't think anyone should be able to flaunt the law like he has (both criminally and now civilly).

That is a very strange thing to sue for. I wonder, if they won, what is it they are awarded? O.J. masks to wear? Can they sign his name? I don't think he really pulls in that much money any more.
At some point I would think they would let all this rest and try to overcome it.
I guess it is true, you can sue anyone for anything at any time. They will just be out more money for the lawyers, etc. If he has not paid by now, he never will.

Don't know if it's ever been done before. I wish the Goldman's all the LUCK IN THE WORLD. I hope they win. Their son was in the wrong place at the wrong time for the right reasons. TRYING to be a good citizen. They have my sympathy and best wishes.

OJ is the scum of the earth who literally got away with murder. I hope the Goldmans get every dime he has, and I don't understand why anyone would have anything to do with OJ.

I never heard of anyone being sued for their name or their facial features.
Just thinking about sends chills up my spine. If they can do it then anyone can sue for name and facial features. No one will be exempt to the rule.

I hope they win.
O.J. clearly is not doing his best to find the "real killer" on all those golf courses he has been searching.
