Good luck. All I've found is that absence makes the heart grow fonder... for somebody else. Tried it three times, never again.

If anything, I would try to set some concrete dates when the two of you can be together. The sense of an indefinite date in the future will doom you otherwise.

Without knowing your situation more, it is hard to give you good advice. You may want to ask the question again in the near future, but provide more detail. You will likely find a lot of people here sharing similar situations. (Plus post it under family & relationships... or what ever it is called).

I have a best friend in Iraq and he has a girlfriend that he met here two times ago on his leave. He has seen her only twice on leave for a couple of times each.

They are happy together, though they have a way of arguing. Anyway, last time he was here he gave her a rock and they became engaged. They "as far as we know" have been faithful to each other and they are both pretty young. She is 19 and he is 21. Anyway, they are going to get married when he gets out of the military and then we will see.

They talk on the phone almost everyday, they each have a myspace, and an instant messenger. Though none of them are near as good as together but he'll be out soon.

Email and Snail Mail, and hopefully cell phones that don't cost too much. Letting the person know that you are thinking about them every day... goes a long way towards trust. They reason that if there is some contact every day, then you probably haven't found a new love interest.

My husband and I had a long distance relationship the whole time we were engaged. He was in the Navy and I was in college. We wrote a letter to one another every day. It was hard sometimes, especially if nothing interesting was happening. Sending cards is nice, too.
Just little "missing you" and "love you" cards.

Sometimes, little gifts. I sent him a bag of jelly beans one time, and it cost more to send it than it was worth. But he got a kick out of that because I remembered that he liked jelly beans.

Just think of little things that you know about the person, and find ways to let them know that you remember those things.

Lots of cards, romantic letters, and visit as often as you can. I kept one going for many years but the important thing must be that you really love each other. It is easy not to stray if your heart is really in it. The big thing is that someone has to be willing to movve at some point. Ask yourself that now, it is what killed my relationship. If neither is willing to move at some point, better to end it now. I still miss my ex every day........

Communicate daily ..yahoo messenger ..emails ..phonecalls..make sure you are completely honest!....and tell her you love her...someone will eventually have to move where the other one lives...set a date...for this to take place...but most of all if you really have love for her ...it will work out!!

i had one in college, 20 yrs. ago. she was a flt. attendant and i was a working scholar. she visited just once in a year so needless to say i got lonely and dipped my toe in the co-ed waters. got a few nibbles and that was the end of that, though i still loved her.
had fun and still do not regret what i did.
