What follows is purely my opinion (so take it with a grain a salt...cause I might be talking out of my behind...you were thinking it anyway...so now we have that out of the way).
Ok, Bush Sr. has been grooming his boy George Jr. for the presidency for a looonnng time. He and mama Bush had this plan formulating. And after losing to Clinton which just baked their eggs, they needed some payback and George Jr. just fit the bill perfectly. So Bush Sr. got his friends together to support his boy's run for the presidency. The success of their impeachment effort freed up all those resources for use in knocking out the other Republican challengers. And they did a good job.
And then they made sure some other convenient things took place to get George Jr. in the Oval Office. (voting irregularities aside, I still blame Gore's loss to not winning his home state of Tennessee...inexecusable and winning it would have made Florida a non-issue.) Ok done digressing.
For me the biggest question is did George Jr. really want to be president?? I don't think so. I don't believe being president was really one his dream jobs. But he's been a good son and has gone in and restored his daddy's legacy. Iraq was pushed on George Jr. long before he became president. All Bush Sr.'s buddies made sure that George Jr. fixed the Iraq problem that so many people blamed on Bush Sr.
Now this Liberal Democrat also believed that Bush Sr. did exactly the right things during the Gulf War. He built a true coalition, he defeated a real enemy and was smart enough to let Hussein retain enough military to maintain control and act as a buffer to Iran. He did what was in the best interest of the American people.
OHH but then all the people in this country started Monday morning quarterbacking the president that he didn't finish the job. Conservatives as well as Liberals did this to the president.
And so he made sure that his boy George Jr. fixed the problem.
So are we happy now???

His puppet strings are largely connected to corporate oil interests and any demographic that will vote for him (fundies, military hawks, etc). He wants people to believe he's independent, but he's more worried about the polls than he'd let on. If his Dad has any interest or pull, it's more subtle than I'd first suspect.
(As you say, Kermit M has some profound ideas, too)

I believe if he is going to continue to support solely the interests of oil at home and abroad, the congress should consider mandatory legislation to begin towing the crumbling world glacier systems, the now ocean bound parts, towards the US quick. I will estimate Sacramento valley temperature as averaging 4 degrees above normal last year for summer months average, and 9 this year.

I'm guessing George H. W. Bush (father) has the same interest of going after terrorists and countries that harbor terrorists. So, in that respect, George W. Bush (son) is representing his dad's interests.

I think he is doing his best in all areas. There were things his Father was unable to finish, however I feel it is marvelous he has completed those and has done much on his own. Sometimes we fail to realize things are voted on in the Senate, in Congress, somethings never pass their hands for they veto them out. We can only hope our country, our people can come together in unity where a President stands and support him. I like our President and his family...perhaps there have been some mistakes...but "he who is without sin cast the first stone." Saith the Lord.

He is a big government Republican. He is not a conservative. He is not independent. He has angered many conservatives by allowing Republicans to spend like Democrats.
He does not represent his father. Jr. is pro-life, his father is not. His father tried to appease liberals. Jr. has stood his ground, no matter what the criticism.

No, Id say he's fairly different frm his dad in how he tries to solve issues.
But her certainly is not independant, either. I think more than most presidents, his closest advisors (i.e. Cheney, Rove) influence what he does, a LOT.

It really doesn't matter, just as long as the interests he represents are good for the country.
