You're looking for love in all the wrong places. Being intimate with different people, wil not fill your void. It will only make it worse. You need to find your self worth and realize that you don't have to be intimate to get anyone.

It's because you are not comfortable with yourself, gal. There are subconscious issues that trouble you, likely insecurity and fear of the unknown.
I have a library full of books that define issues like this, and its evil twin 'codependency.' I doubt you want to hear all the jargon so I'll just recommend one terrific read by a gal named Sarah Ban Breathnach. It's called 'Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self.' It gives exactly the information you are seeking, but it's funny and easy to read. All the advice is phrased in terms of an archeological dig.
Remember the old Gnostic axiom: 'as within, so without.' Whatever troubles you on the inside will show up on behaviors on the outside.
When you are able to spend longer periods of time on your own, in serenity, then you'll know you've got it right.

DrunkPenguin... a real small piece of you? lol ;)
Are you serious with this question because that's tough. My go at it is you're not happy with yourself and you think having an intimate relationship will make you better or make you seem more of a worthwhile person.
Figure out why you're not happy with yourself and try to work on it.
Or just piss away money to a therapist to help you figure it out.

Early programing would be my guess, your not the only one. God knows I was harased into marriage by family, fortunatly for the most part it has worked out fine. I wish people would realize though that having a relationship is not the end-all be-all. Sometimes alone is better.

Did you not have a good relationship with your father? Most of these insecure feelings stem from your relationship with your father. Was he accepting of you or did he not ever show you affection as a child or to this day? Studies show that this is very true. Do the research and you might find it interesting!

seems like we all want to feel wanted, why wouldn't we? Would be nice to be held or hugged or kissed. But I need love to go with it. I get the physical every once in a while, maybe some day I will find the love.

The void is yourself. Find you and you will be filled. No one can fix you but you.

One word - companionship.
Although you maybe surrounded by a million people, you still feel all alone because of that emptiness in you heart.
Well, when God create Adam, He know that He need to create Eve also.
Because we humans, also comes in pair.
