Think about it - people like chuck barry or elvis were the marilyn manson or madonna of their time...

It went from fun songs with understandable lyrics (late 50s/early 60s),
To more creative songs with important lyrics (late 60s/early 70s),
To better, longer songs with a guitar solo in every song (late 60s/70s/early 80s),
To hair bands and flashy "faster is better" guitar solos (80s),
To boring songs with no guitar solos (90s/now)
