Old people seem to have closed minds.

I love to learn new things and always love a challange. I am 62, old by some people's way of thinking but I do have an open mind. Yes some old people are set in their ways and in their thinking and there is no changing them. That's sad because they miss out on the new adventures in life. My husband is 87 and he is always up for new things. He loves to take long trips, try new foods, and is quite the romantic. He's definately not a close minded old duffer.

its all a matter of perspective some young people dont listen to older ones and benefit from their wisdom and life experiences they believe they know it all and miss out on a lot a wise man once said "the more we lear the more we realize just how much we dont know " and the 2nd wisest man on earth said this you need 4 things to succeed in life Wisdom, Discernment , Understanding , and Knowledge ie you can have all the knowledge in the world but if you dont know how to use it it is of no value to illustrate you are standing on a railroad track a train is comming you Know if it hits you you are dead that is knowledge you understand you must do something discernment tells you that you must get off the track and I might add Insight help you use all three for you benefit and that of others and most people are always learning something and as for the old people having closed minds that isnt true they just arent impulsive like younger ones they take time to ponder and meditate on their deccissions and once they arrive at it are determined to stick to it unless giving overwhelming compelling evidence to the contrary and hence make fewer mistakes than the impulsive ones as they have a lifetime of experience and learning to draw on that the young ones dont hope that clears up you misconception Gorbalizer

When I was 16, I thought I knew it all. Same thoughts at 20. By 24-25, I was figuring out that I had a long way to go. I'm in my early 40's and finding out that even after college, etc. I really don't know poop. *LOL* Okay, I know lots of stuff, but...no way do any of us know it all! I try to learn something new every day, and I talk to people of all ages, because everybody can teach you something.

I am one of those close minded old people and at my age I continue to learn new things all of the time in fact in my life I have had to reinvent myself many times. that is only possible by learning new things constantly.

You probably should clarify that with SOME old people. I have an aunt who is 80 and she's always checking out new stuff, usually on the net. I love to learn new things. I'm waiting for cars like the Jetson's to come out.

Clueless people who claim to know it all give those of us that really do know it all a bad name.

Many "old people" have very open minds and soak up new things happily. But they have also seen a lot of flaky stuff in their lives and may have highly developed bullshit detectors - this can make them seem close-minded when they are merely skeptical.

I LOVE learning new things!
I'm 47, so I don't know if I'm old, but if someone is so boring that they can't converse about anything except the weather or how fast they ran their last marathon, I try to bow out and move on.
If they taught me something about weather....that's a different story!

Funny, you should ask this question, because older people feel the same way about younger people who think that once a person gets a few years under their belt, their brains atrophy...NOT. I find the opposite is true.

I still 'learn something new everyday' as the old saying goes. I'm 40...not OLD but not some young kid either.

My mother always told me, "A child can teach you something" Then my 3 year old nephew showed her how to make the numbers larger on her remote. Lol....that is the honest to goodness truth.
