If this is her assignment, it would be best to let her research this issue, and contact local hospitals. It can vary a lot from place to place, and it was supposed to be a learning experience for her. She can only learn if you let her do the work, mom!

This is going to vary a lot between different types of deliveries. So far this is all I have been billed for my 3rd delivery. About $100 for lab work, $130 for pharmacy, $1150 for being in the labor room for pre-care, $720 for delivery, and $670 for post-care. The total being only $2731.11 so far. This was a 12 hour induced labor, with no epideral, and only just over a 1 day post-care hospital stay. I still haven't recieved a bill from my doctor yet though. My 1st birth on the other hand my husband says was around $10,000 for a 24+ hour induced labor, with an epideral, and a two day post-hospital stay. I would suggest maybe doing what others have suggested and contact doctors and hospitals.

There is no way to give an exact price. All Drs. are different .
It also depends on what drugs and equipment are needed.
I know my Dr. wanted $2500 at my first appoinment before I could even be seen for prenatal care. Then there was a monthly fee in addition to cover the delivery.
That did not include any prenatal labs or ultrasounds.

Your best bet would be to call a local Dr and ask for some prices just based on everything going normally.
Not sure if you wanted hospital charges as well, but those are even harder to determine beforehand.

I recently ran into a problem with my insurance company and had to ask my Doctor's office what it would cost me to receive care and for the delivery. I was told:
$100 for each appointment
$4000 for vaginal birth or $5000 for C-section.
The $100 for each appointment would be subtracted from the delivery cost (the $4000 or $5000)

Any lab work was additional but they didn't give the the price for it all. Thank goodness my insurance problem finally worked out.

Hope I could help. (just to let you know, I'm on Long Island so I'm not sure if childbirth costs more just like everything else.)
