because people wont want to hit things head on by themselves. they need reassurance in what they are doing, and sometimes people just need to say things so its expressed in a question and just want people to know what is going on in their world.

blind hope that in general people will tell them what they want to hear but they may also seek the truth in the situation and feel overwhelmed by the emotion around it and just want a second opinion
