The first thing I would do is to take my 84-year old mother to her lawyer for legal counsel and what ever legal documents need to be prepared and signed. Then I would change phone numbers to unlisted numbers. I would help her find 24-7 home care for my 88-year old dad so he could come home from the healthcare facility where he now stays because we have neither the expertise nor the physical ability to care for him ourselves. Since they have been married over 67 years, it would be the most important thing to both of them to be together as much as possible in their latter days.

I would just congratulate her and be happy for her. I wouldn't need to suck up to her because I know she'd give me like a million.
