Hi,

Can you give me a definition of "SYSTEM ID" and "APPLICATION ID" in Information technology?

How would you differentiate between them?

Cheers
Tran

System ID is what gets you on to the entire system. Application ID is what gets you into the individual apllications on the comptuer. If you have many different software packages you need a separate Appl. ID for each one.

A system is a group of related components that interact to perform a task. It is made up by databases (defines data structures), application programs (data entry, updating, queries and reporting) and Procedures (Defines data flow).
Application: The term application is a shorter form of application program. An application is a program designed to perform a specific function or a well-defined task directly for the user or, in some cases, for another application program. The word "application" is used because each program has a specific application for the user.
For example: An application that helps the user accomplish a specific task are a word processing program, a spreadsheet program, a payroll program, a inventory program or billing program.
As system example we have Microsoft Office, which is a integrated suite of desktop applications, that includes some combination of applications, like Word (word processing application), Excel (spreadsheet application) and others. Also, we have order processing systems, payroll systems (which include the payroll program), inventory system and accounts payable systems.
Identifier, when referring to computers, is a unique label or name that is used to identify an object, such as a system, an application, a user, group of users, etc. The identifier facilitate the comunication, identificacion and control between systems and/or applications.
So, a System Identifier is a unique label that identifies a System. An a Application identifier is a unique label that identifies an Application.
FYI:
The Operating SYSTEM is a specialize system that includes libraries of functions, system services, drivers for hardware, system preferences, and other configuration files. The programs that are part of the operating system include assemblers, compilers, file management tools, system utilites, and debuggers.
