Is a (Ohio) company liable for any damage if an employee travels of his own free will to another state to work for a different unit of that same company. I wanted to travel to Detroit and work then return to Cincinnati where the people in Detroit would transfer my payroll back to Cincinnati.
The company says I can't because they would be liable if anything bad happened. I don't believe they are telling the truth. I volunterred to do this........doesn't that mean they are not liable?

Of course they are liable if it is a work-related assignment even if you volunteered. They are worried about the Workman's Comp that they pay for you, the cheapskates! Ask them if you can sign a document that you will not hold them responsible in case of any damage incurred...maybe that will get them off the hook and you can go. But it would be your choice to do that...I wouldn't. Good Luck!

I'm sure that they could write something up and have you sign it saying that you are liable. Which would get them off the hook.

What is the point of your question? They are liable, it's the same company no matter what the location.

Tell them you are not going then, if they say OK then they are serious. And you should accept full responsibility if you still want to go. Sometimes in life you have to accept responsibility for your own actions. It cannot be risk free.
