I redid my kitchen in old barnwood. Lucked out though. Cruised the countryside and found people pulling an old barn down. Sad thing is that we are losing these old historical buildings at an alarming rate! My kitchen looks "very countryish" for being in the city! :-)=

Using a torch worked for me for many years in the refinishing and wood working business. After you complete the torch and wire brush operation you may also want to bleach with chlorine bleach neutralize with water and stain the color of your choice. It's up to you, other wise just seal it or leave natural...Good Luck !

take a small propane torch and burn the wood lightly. then a wire brush and brush it hard until all the black comes off. do a practice piece first and you'll find out how much to burn.please to do this outside away from combustibles.

Sand down the edges a bit. Brush on a little black or dark brown paint, and wipe it with a rag.
