Stretch every morning and night. when you get up, your body is relaxed, and alittle easier to stretch, and before you go to bed, it restretches your body out.

I have found that after a little bit of progress (i don't know how far you are from flat) the best stretch to do is to find two chairs that are at the same level (folding chairs work great, they're easy to move where you want them). position them facing eachother, then go inbetween them into a split position. use the seat of the chair to put your elbow or hands on (depending on how close you the ground you are) to support the majority of your weight. stay there for at least a minute and a half, and work your way to longer times.

useing this method, you can apply some of you body weight to push you down, but also hold yourself up enough to be sure not to hurt yourself.

Mainly, though, just stretch every day and don't go too far. if you do, you can hurt yourself. i know someone that can now never do the splits because she tore something and it now blocks her from stretching it more than the average person. either that, or you could injur yourself enough to make it hurt reall bad, have to rest for a couple of weeks, and then have to start from square one because you lost your flexibility while waiting to heal.

Good luck! And maybe try some yoga, or look at your local movie store for a yoga or stretching DVD or tape (if you only have a VHS player, for some reason...).

I think if you simply try to do each of these a couple of times a day youll find that gradually you can stretch yourself more and more...

Why not try a yoga or pilates class - these improve your strength and flexibility.

Like with everything, the more you do it the easier it gets - good luck!

stretch everyday and you will get there sooner or later.... Don't push it, you don't want to pull your hamstring :)
