In most cases it turn out to be cancer. How is that you did not show to a Doctor for 3 years. Atleast now show to an oncologist and have mammogram done. This will show the actual position and you can have treatment as required. Please do not neglect.

Fibroadenomas are solid and round benign tumors that are made up of both structural and glandular tissues. So was named as “ Fibro adenoma”. Usually these lumps are painless, and women finds them by themselves. They are rubbery in consistency and can easily be moved around. Fibroadenomas are the most common type of tumors in women in their late teens and early twenties. Fibroadenomas have a typically benign appearance on mammography as smooth, round masses with a clearly defined edge, and they can sometimes be diagnosed with fine needle aspiration. Fibroadenomas do not become malignant.

Any way Best of luck.

There is actually a great deal of data on fibroadenomas. Fibroadenomas are benign tumors composed of stromal and epithelial elements. The tumors are commonly seen in young women. Multiple or complex fibroadenomas may indicate a slightly increased risk for breast cancer; the relative risk is approximately twice that of patients of similar age without fibroadenomas. their development is considered to be an aberration of normal development. The cause is unknown. Approximately 10% of fibroadenomas disappear each year, and most stop growing after they reach 2-3 cm.

Fibroadenomas may involute in postmenopausal women, and coarse calcifications may develop. Conversely, the tumors may grow rapidly during pregnancy, during hormone replacement therapy, or during immunosuppression, in which case they can simulate malignancy. Treatment recommendations are usually as follows: Less than 25 years - observe; 25 - 35 years - offer conservative treatment; More than 35 years - excision biopsy Excise at any age if patient requests - (Author: Marilyn A Roubidoux, MD, Professor of Radiology, Department of Breast Imaging, University of Michigan Medical Center)

Fibroadenomas of the breast are very common, benign lesions. They can follow these lesions with ultrasound to make sure they don't change in size or shape. Ultrasound is safer than mammograms because of the radiation. The usually don't want to radiate young women. So ask about ultrasound OK?
