Life the universe and everything 42.
No thats just an old joke, actually you existed prior to being here on planet Earth. The only reason your'e here is you were put into a physical meat, bone and blood body to co-exist with others who originally came from the same place you did. The reason you came here is two fold, one to learn what it is to be and to exist as a person, and two its all a test to see exactly what type of person you wish to become, you can goto the light and be a good person or enter the dark and become evil, no I am not a Star Wars junkie this comes from the Holy Bible, old testament as well as the new. This life's meaning is simply one question were do you wish to spend eternity? Heaven or Hell. If you like power thinking your'e better than everyone else then Hell, if you care and have a open heart towards others then Heaven. It all depends on what you do, what you listen to, and how you feel doing certain things, its called "Free will" and all existance lives on that point of a needle if it didn't and free will were taken away well it would be hell.
Thank you.

I've compiled a list of noteworthy contemporary answers and their authors, between which you can decide for yourself:

1.) Monty Python; The Meaning of Life, the movie -- "Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations."

2). Douglas Adams; The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- "42"

3). Kurt Vonnegut [my personal pick]; Cat's Cradle --

Man blinked. "What is the purpose of all this?" he asked politely.

"Everything must have a purpose?" asked God.

"Certainly," said man.

"Then I leave it to you to think of one for all this," said God.

And He went away.

4). Also Kurt Vonnegut; God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, Eliot Rosewater in a letter to newborn babies -- "There's only one rule that I know of ... God damn it babies, you've got to be kind."
