I think that you probably can do it sometimes but as time goes on it will become more difficult to do so and then in the last days it will be impossible to sleep on your stomach.
I have read that doctors recommend to sleep on your left side so that you will be more comfortable as your pregnancy progresses. There are lots of suggestions about using pillows or blankets to help support your stomach or prop your legs apart so that will relieve the pressure on your back.

Go to the web site listed below and read the entire article to get more information. The most important thing is to ask your doctor and follow the advice you are given and start trying to adjust your sleeping positions now so that later in your pregnancy you will find it so hard to find a comfortable position.

No way, I'm also 5 wks pregnant and found out today! Congrats. And no, you can sleep on your tummy until it becomes uncomfortable. With my last baby, I stopped around 12 wks or so, just because I didn't like the feeling of sleeping on a bloated abdomen. And also, you may get extra gas and tummy upset which will make sleeping on your stomach feel uncomfortable. If I were you, I would sleep on my back as much as I could, because later on you can't, and you'll miss it! Tonight, I'll be on my back. ;)

I'm a tummy sleeper and am 8/9 weeks pregnant. The only real reason to not sleep on your tummy is because it is uncomfortable. Sadly, once you get to the point where your tummy is too big to sleep on, your not generally sleeping through the night because of all the frequent trips to the bathroom and other issues with pregnancy. Congratulations on your pregnancy, and keep sleeping in whatever position is the most comfortable now :)

I was exactly like that, too. I would love to sleep on my stomach (that was the only way I would fall asleep). Then I found out I was pregnant...I also got worried about how I would sleep. So my doctor said that you can sleep on your stomach until your big enough that you feel pressure on there. Now (22 weeks)...I'm big enough that my body knows itself that I shouldn't be sleeping on my stomach....it just kind of makes a habbit of its own. HONESTLY...don't worry about, you won't even know when you stop sleeping on your stomach and start sleeping on your sides. Best of luck and by the way, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The 1st trimester you can keep your same sleeping position if you want.

The reason why it matters later is that as your baby & uterus grows, it puts pressure on the vena cava which can cause blood flow problems. By lying on your side, you maximize blood flow. Being a stomach sleeper, there will be a point where it is physically uncomfortable, that's your key to switch, for me (a back sleeper) it was a little more difficult to tell, but now at 36 weeks, I can't even lay on my back for more than a couple of minutes because I get very faint, dizzy, as if I'm going to black out.

Good luck!

You can sleep on your tummy until it becomes uncomfortable, and it will! Your body will let you know when! You are fine to do this for a few months. You probably won't want to around your fourth month or so. It is not good to sleep on your back. The very best way to lay during pregnancy is on your left side to increase blood flow to the fetus and placenta. Try putting a pillow between your knees to make you more comfortable.

5 weeks is too early to worry about sleeping on your stomach. When stomach sleeping becomes uncomfortable it's time to try something new. It's recommended that pregnant women sleep on their left side as this increases blood flow to the uterus and improves overall circulation by removing pressure from the major artery that runs through your stomach/abdomen.

I stopped sleeping on my stomach when it go uncomfortable. I think 5 months is too soon to stop. I suggest sleeping on your stomach as often as u can, because once u get big its not going to be possible. or if it is it will be very uncomfortable.

You can sleep on your tummy until it's too round and basically uncomfortable to do so. The baby is very well protected in there, but it's ultimately up to you. You're the mama, Congratulations.
