I had 2 and never went into the Dr. I was 16 and 19 and then at 21 had a very healthy daughter who just started Kindergarten. Anyhow I never went to the Dr and I was ok. No scraping or tests. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are still in pain, bleeding, puking or running a temp. I am sorry about your loss.

A lot depends on how far along in your pregnancy when you miscarried, and if the miscarriage was complete. Complete means that all of the contents of the uterus, and products of conception were expelled. When you miscarried, did you notice any passing of clots or tissue like material, anything whitish, or anything that resembles a fetus, or was it just bleeding? These may be some of the questions your doctor will ask you. He also may or may not take some blood to determine if you have anymore pregnancy hormone left, and to do a blood count (CBC) to see if the bleeding has left you with low iron, and he may do a white blood cell count (WBC) and differential to determine if there is any infection. He will also ask you about the period you've had since, and if it was normal. He may not do an internal pelvic exam, or he might, this will depend on your doctor. Your doctor may do a sonogram to determine if there is anything left inside your uterus, and may prescribe medications or may do a D & C. (This is a type of surgery that is done on an outpatient basis to scrape and clean out the uterus to make sure nothing remains that could cause bleeding or infection). Since you have already had a period after the miscarriage, chances are that everything has been expelled by your body, and you are O.K. Since it will be very easy for you to become pregnant again, this will be a part of the discussion, whether or not you want to be, or not. If not, he will discuss birth control methods with you.

Wow there are a lot of women giving you answers who are very misinformed. I had a miscarriage 5 months ago. My doctor and doula and all legitimate info that I could find said that your body is perfectly equiped to take care of everything. Depending on how far along you are it will be just like a big horrible period. And when you pass a large tissue type thing the bleeding will soon be over. In fact your doctor should not be quick to do a D&C to get everything out. That can make it harder to get pregnant in the future. Of course as with anything there are rare cases where for some strange reason an infection does occur you will have symptom extra cramping and a fever things like that. Talk to your doctor about what to look for. Sooo sorry about your loss.

I am sorry to hear that you had a miscarriage. I had one 9 yrs ago. If you did not go in for a D & C, they may have to do some test to make sure your body is healing as it should be. I don't really remember what happened at the follow up appointment? Of what I recall the doctor will ask about your state of mind, see how you are doing. Come prepared with any ?'s that you may have. The best advice I can give is to make sure you take time to grieve. My sister kept my son for 3 days, so that my husband and I could have time alone to talk and cry for as long as we needed.

Sometimes they want to do a D&C to make sure everything is out. But if you have had a period and no further cramping they will probably do nothing. He may press on your stomach (lower actually) to see if you are tender or in pain. He may do an ultra sound to see that all of the pregnancy contents have been expelled. I would not have a D&C unless you are having pain. Doctors like to do all sorts of tests. Some...and maybe most are unnecessary. So it just depends on your doctor.

They'll just want to check you out to be sure you're alright, Of course they'll look inside you! But it's no big deal, they're just doing it to be sure nothing is left. If you've had your period and it was that long ago, they may not even be able to tell you were pregnant anymore, depending on how far along you are.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I'm sure the doctor will probably draw some blood for tests, give you a gyno exam, and talk to you about it. It won't be that bad, I promise!

Good luck!

You NEED to go to the doctor... Sometimes you dont miscarry all the way and things can get stuck in your uterus and rot! You can actually die from not going if something is left. You can get blood poisoning!

The doctor's probably going to give you a pap smear to make sure you're okay. Everything will be okay. Sorry about your loss

You NEED to see a dr ASAP!!! It's dangerous to leave all that dead tissue inside your body. It may make it impossible to carry another child due to infection. Please see the doctor so they can check you out and make sure you don't already have an infection. That's very important.
