Hi This is my first pregnancy. I just found out friday I am 5 weeks pregnant and I hear all of the horrible things that happen. I may just be too paranoid but I am just making sure. I would love to hear the do's and don'ts and what is right and what is not. Please all mothers out there help me out with advice. I keep thinking every little cough, sneez, fall ect. will make me miscarry.

Some women have a harder time carrying a pregnancy, but generally, it's not that easy to miscarry. Through 3 pregnancies, I had spotting for the first 10 weeks and my OB said, "If it's meant to be, it will be." No bed rest or anything. Just remember that the horror stories you hear are REALLY rare. Don't take up skydiving or anything, but the healthy things you have been regularly doing for the past few months (moderate exercise, sex, working, etc) shouldn't cause you or your baby any harm. Good luck!

P.S. My OB gave advice to just live normal and healthy through even my twin pregnancy!

First of all, try not to worry about it. If it does happen, there's nothing you can do to prevent or stop it. I know it's hard to think that way, but that is all you can do. The farther along you get in your first trimester, the chance of miscarriage goes down.

If, for some reason, you suddenly lose all of your pregnancy symptom and/or experience red blood, call your doctor immediately or go to the emergency room.

I had a miscarriage a year ago, and I know how badly it hurts. Know that even if you do miscarry though, your chances of delivering a healthy baby in the future is very high! I am now pregnant again, and have made it past the first trimester.

Good luck, and I hope everything goes well for you!

I encourage you to relax. Every pregnancy is different. The risk of miscarriage cannot be evaluated in terms of well defined numbers. The variables are too many and the hard data is not there. There is no point to worrying. As long as you use common sense and don't do something like participate in a marital arts tournament, you should be OK. Many women lead very active life styles without endangering the pregnancy. Others miscarry with no known reason. The main thing is do not worry. Enjoy your pregnancy. Wishing you well.

The only reasons miscarry happen is from chromosone abnormalities, smoking, drinking or carrying very heavy items. otherwise your baby is very well cushioned in your womb so sneezing etc will not do anything. Do not read the bad out there, read the good. If u do not have a history of miscarriages or doing things that cause strain in your pregnancy u are good. And stressing out is very bad for a pregnancy so do not stress about this just enjoy your pregnancy. Good Luck and congrats!

Oh sweetie, don't worry yourself. Seriously. You can fall down a flight of stairs and be fine. If you are going to miscarry, there is nothing you can do or could have done to prevent it....unless of course you're smoking 2 packs a day or taking drugs, etc. First trimester miscarriages almost always occur because of a problem with the baby, not because of a cough, a sneeze, because you lifted a toddler, etc.

Although miscarriages are fairly common, try to be positive. Stress is not good on the baby. Just be healthy. Don't drink, smoke, do drugs, ask your ob before taking any type of over the counter or prescription medication, try to cut out caffeine, don't eat fish more than once a week, umm, I really can't think of anything else, but your doctor should have a list of dos and don'ts for you. Miscarriages aren't caused by coughs or sneezes but you should try to avoid any blows to the belly. Just take care of yourself and the baby will be fine. Good luck and congrats.

Sometimes the baby is not made quite right. The best thing you can do right now is eat nutritious meals with lots of fruit and vegetables, especially green vegetables. Take your prenatal vitamins and get what rest you can. Sneezing, etc, will not make you miscarry. It's slightly possible that having a virus could, though, because of the action of the virus on the fetus. It's more likely that medicine would cause it.

If your OB told you that you are healthy then you have no reason to worry. Try not to listen to outsiders. They mean well but each pregnancy is different. Just don't do any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise, things like that. No more douching if you have been and at the first sign of spotting, call your OB!!! You'll be fine I promise. Just take it easy. The worst part is the first trimester anyway so once it's over, you'll be home free.

you cant miscarry from a cough or sneeze most miscarriages are because of a birth defect not all though... talk to your ob/gyn and see what he or she has to say there are tests that they can run to find out how likely you are to miscarry ask your ob for an ultrasound tell them you dont think your dates are matching up that way they give you one and then you can see your baby. sometimes that is reassuring.
