I wouldn't say give him something, myself, but I would say:

Help him to sleep on his left side - that seems to help gas pains and releases it

Bouncing helps - have him on your shoulder and bounce or even jump while holding his head against your body (worked for my kids)

Lay him on his back and do leg to chest exercises - just kind of bicycle his leg slowly and bring the knees as close to the chest as you can

Lay him over your lap, face down. I knew some mothers who would even try ti get the child abdomen on the edge of the lap and would pat or rub the back. That seemed to help a lot with some kids.

Now, my mom is an herbalist and I used a product that she gave me, but on the skin, not internally. It was liquid Cat Nip and Fennel (fennel tea has long been a good remedy for digestive issues) and I would put it on the triangle area below and bewteen the ribs and put it on the feet. Here's a link: http://www.mynsp.com/deamicis/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=3195

You can also massage the feet, particularly the heels to help get the gas to pass.

Peace!

My baby was colicky and gassy, this is what we tried.
1.mylicone gas drops/little tummies gas drops-I have used these and if its minor gas they seem to work pretty well.
2. exercising the legs in a bicycle type motion.
3. rubbing the stomach area in a circular motion
4. scrunching the legs to the tummy and back down.
5. baby bliss- its a Annis type liquid homeopathic remedy. this seemed to work the best for bad gas problems. buy it on amazon.com, or drugstore.com.
6.warm baths to soak tummy.
7. NOT over feeding. this makes digestion worse and lots of gas
8. if bottle feeding, do not give the last ounce on the bottom. too much air gets swallowed. If breast feeding, get a really good latch.
9. burp more frequently like every ounce in burp the baby.
10. hope something here helps! good luck!

It's normal. You can try gently rubbing the stomach to ease the pain and discomfort, or lay baby on your knees and gently lift your legs. If that doesn't work, try holding baby like you would a football, with head and legs pointed toward each other. This may ease the gas bubbles up to relieve the pain. Poor thing...

You can try any of the following:

1. rub his tummy in a clockwise motion
2. on his back, slow bend his knees and bring them to his chest
3. give him a few drops of ginger tea (make sure it is cool so not to burn his mouth), ginger tea is known for it's effectivness in gas relief
4. are you breastfeeding, if yes, then watch what you are eating and eliminate gas causing foods i.e. beans, eggs, broccoli etc.
5. if formula feeding, switch to a non-milk based product
6. burp the baby thoroughly
6 . see your doctor, he/she can recommend other treatments.

Have you noticed that your son seems to have more bouts of prolonged crying, and marked irritability along with the gas? If yes, you could be dealing with colic.

Check out this website, it gives you information on things to help

You can try Donnalix its a natural formalu that you give just before you feed. i found that to help heaps
If breasfeeding make sure he has an air tight attachement. and you can try gravity feeding where you like on your back and bubs sucks up...it helps to reduce the flow of milk
If bottle feeding you may want to slow down the flow or try another teat.
Hope this is heapful

My sister had this prob with her first. the dr told her to take a cake of ivory soap and whittle it down to a blunt shape like chalk about as big around as your finger and massage the babies' anus with it just a bit. Do NOT over do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, keep the baby sitting up for at least 15 minutes after it eats or drinks.

Gas drops (Mylacan???) You might also talk to your doctor about changing his formula.

I have a 6 week old, and when he has gas and is fussy we hold him and bounce on one of those big exercise balls. It truly works magic! It's unreal how well it works.

My pediatrician gave me something for that, I'm not sure what it's called but it's little drops. Tell your pediatrician, mine said you can also use the drops that are in the baby section at wal-mart.

Mylicon drops work wonders! Also, get your hand warm (rub them together) & then place gently on his tummy-- the warmth is very soothing.

What worked for my daughter is lay her on her back and bicyle her legs. It gets the gasses moving through the body and out the end. :-)
