funny you should ask. about a month ago i had what i thought was bad heartburn for about a week, then developed a 103 degree fever. So i went to the hospital saw that there was an 8 hour wait. Katrina even affected the hospitals up here in Baton Rouge, I was going to leave but went to the triage. The next thing I know i was whisked to the ER. 5 minutes after that the doctor said I was going to surgery. I have had a kidney stone and wanted to die, with this I THOUGHT i was going to die , big difference. when i awoke i felt much better. The appendix is a useless string of tissue about the size of your little finger with the only apparent use is to get infected at the most inappropriate time. Evolution working at its usual snail like pace is leaving it out of some people when born. If it ruptures before surgery the risk of septic shock is high.
