What we know is that the Army Corps of Engineers did another lackluster levee job. I lived through the flood of 1993 while living in St. Charles County, Missouri - Mississippi on one side and the Missouri on the other. Talk about a lot of water. Of course we didn't loot America's "best city". Nope we buckled down and set to work fighting that flood.

Why did the levees fail in New Orleans. They failed because budgets were not sufficient enough to build a levee to withstand a category 5 hurricane. Apparently the government did a cost benefit study and concluded it just wasn't worth the money to protect a great American City. Of course we will spend 100 X that to rebuild an worthless Iraqi City.

That's what I know... any questions....

You know, I'm really not a religious nut, I also know you will not believe this fact, but New Orleans is the original Sin City of America. Do you suppose God may have decided to teach the place a little lesson? All these many years the city has been below the water level and now, along with a little collateral damage, maybe its a lesson learned...

The state of Louisiana spent the millions allocated to fix the levees on everything but fixing the levees!!! So the levees failed after Katrina and flooded New Orleans..

No. I'm sure we don't know the real story. Though we do know a lot of people died, due to human arrogance, incompetence and unpreparedness. Probably the blame can be split many ways. Did they even try to find the missing children?
