My husband and I are trying to conceive our second child and can't wait to find out if were pregnant. I have been using the First Response Pregnancy Test for 2 days and received negative results. Since then I have found out that they may not be that accurate because woman release different amounts of HCG when their pregnant. Does anyone know how accurate they are? Has anyone used them and received a postive result before their missed period? If you know anything about this product please let me know. I would appreciate all information. Thanks

The whole testing thing is confusing isn't it?

First Response is accurate when upwards of 25 mIu/ml hCG is present in your system, the test I used (AimStick) is accurate when upwards of 20 exists, and your standard EPT test is accurate when upwards of 50 exists.

This link will take you to a list of different tests and their associated effectiveness:

Here's the gist of understanding pregnancy tests:

85% of pregnancies implant 8-10 days after ovulation. In a "normal" 28-day cycle, ovulation occurs on day 14. In a "normal" 30-day cycle, ovulation would occur around day 16. After implantation it generally takes several days for levels to get high enough for an early pregnancy test to be positive. The "normal" rate for hCG is that it should double in your system every two days after implantation. So every day you can get closer to your missed period increases your liklihood of getting a positive if you are pregnant. From my ttc experience, some women get positives on 10 & 11 dpo (several days before their missed periods) but the rate increases a ton on 12dpo, and goes up even more the day you missed your period.

Here's my personal example. I have a 25 day cycle, I ovulated on day 11 of my cycle the month I got pregnant (which is true to my 25-day cycle length). I started testing with an AimStick at 8dpo (days past ovulation), it took until 12dpo to get a faint positive, or two days before my missed period, on day 23 of my cycle. The AimStick sensitivity is lower than First Response, so my positive probably wouldn't have shown up until 13dpo, or day 24 of my cycle.

Good luck!

the box says the % of getting a accurate result based on days before your period it's like 50% 11 days after ovulation 58% 12 days 78% 13 i don't remember the % that was a example it dose not reach 98 % till the day of a missed period. I took one this pregnancy 13 days - 14 days light + 16 days DARK +. Every few days your hormones double. Answer early and first response early detest lower hcg then other test and can sometimes show sooner NOT ALWAYS they are still most accurate the day of a missed period.

I used First Response 5 days before the due date of my period and the result was one dark and one very faint line... two days later the second faint line became darker... I got positive results both time and I am now 20 weeks pregnant..

I will definately recommend First response. Try using the product 4-5 days before the date of your period. Good luck!

The percentages should be printed on the directions. I have had a positive result 4 days before my missed period. Usually the best time to test is the day you are supposed to have your period.

Very accurate. I took one last year, 5 days before my period was due, and got a very faint positive.

I went to the doctor the next day for the blood test and sure enough, I was pregnant....my doctor said I was pregnant, but "just barely" with a laugh, since it was really early to know.

So, good luck! I would get a blood test if you want to be REALLY sure, but in my experience, they are really good at early detection.

Yes they work just fine. If I were you, I'd wait another week and then retest. I used E.P.T. today and finally got positive results after about 5 tests with a cheap brand. It was very clear, since the positive is a plus sign, and the lines aren't parallel.

If I were you, I would go to a Planned Parenthood and have blood drawn to be perfectly sure. I used a 1st Response but I had high HCG levels so I could always tell when I was pregnant. But if you want to be perfectly sure, visit your doctor or go to Planned Parenthood.

Practically 100% sure.

Keep in mind that these test have as much or more technology than those made in clinical labs.
