yes. well sort of. but it's a bit hit and miss as to what she'd find.

she is referring to google's 'cached' link which appears under each search result - it is a (non live) snapshot of the page as it was when google came across it.

so, any page/image which appears on the internet has the possibility of being 'cached' by either google, other search engines, or even more likely this site:
http://www.archive.org (try the wayback machine!)

but this is what most people don't realise, EVERYTHING you put on the internet will be recorded somewhere - if not by a person or a search engine, it will be on a backup disc of the server you posted it on. so don't assume that if you delete it it no longer exists, cos it may come back to bite you in the bum!

don't forget to 'accept' this answer if it educated you.

Well, for the most part, no...But she may be able to find a deleted picture you deleted off the Internet, only if she actually knew the exact file name of the picture you deleted. She could then go to Google Images, and then type that file name into Google's search box, and if Google has not cached it yet, it may still show up over the Internet. If she does not know the file name of the picture, it would be most difficult to find your exact picture online.

The teacher is correct. Delete is not the same as erase. It takes special software to erase. And a good technician may even be able to find the picture after that too. What goes on your hard drive can never be regarded as unretrievable.

google, yahoo, archive.org and other services crawl the Internet and save images of websites, including pictures.

If something is online and not on a password protected site then it is fair game for these crawlers.

You can search for specific filenames at any of these sites, so if you know the filename then you might turn it up. It will also appear in the image searches (such as Yahoo or Google Images).

So if you don't want an embarassing photo to show up in someones' image search or at archive.org, DON'T POST IT.

If you view the picture on her computer, it is automaticly saved on there. If you delete it off the internet, it is still in her computer. Is that what you mean?
