His friend & manager, John Stainton (I believe that's who it was) said that he and Steve had talked in the past, and he [John] said that if Steve were ever going to go, it was going to be while he was in the water.
I really wish I could remember when exactly I heard this (somewhere & time on CNN.) John said that Steve was out of his element in the water, and that he wouldn't be able to run away from danger, like he did on land (Steve was VERY quick.)
I wasn't a loyal fan of his show, but I'm going to miss him. He was a great guy, and he did a lot of good. We here in his wife's, Teri, home state of Oregon feels for her loss. No one who has ever gone to a Zoo will forget Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter.

I don't call being a naturalist stupid. He might have been a little flamboyant, but he did what he loved most. Few of us are as fortunate. His career posed a certain amount of danger, so there was always a chance it could happen. I would imagine his only regret is that he left a wife and very young family behind, who will likely carry on his legacy - which is his love of nature.

To be honest, I didn't really ever think about him at all! Never watched the show and I am now really sick of hearing his name! Peace to his family, but this thing has been way overblown and YOU are keeping it going. Shut up already with Steve Irwin!

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

I expected that he might die in an incident involving a wild animal. I don't think he was dong anything stupid at the time of his death. From what I've read & seen, he was swimming and passed over a stingray buried in the sand.

When I saw his face on TV, I listened intently to hear if he was chomped up by a crocodile. I guess he died the way he lived--doing what he loved to do. I just feel sorry for his kids.

He didn't die doing something stupid!
He was filming a documentary for his little girl " bindi" and her new television show.
Excuse me, but since when did doing something kind for your children warrant your death?

Yes. He lived a very risky lifestyle that was bound to catch up with him..and last Sunday, it did..if you play with fire too much and for too long you're bound to get burned
