Advertising is pretty straight forward. It usually means using some form of electronic or print media to get a message across. Promotion includes a lot of activities that are not exactly advertising. Promotion would include things like having a hospitality event at a sporting event and looking to benefit by creating good will with customers or clients.

Both has the same goal: "Making you BUY"
Promotion is starting to get more popular than advertising since costumers are so used to advertising that they block themself, only shocking advertisements or really dramatic ones make an impact, promotion is a lot more sneaky, you dont even know its there, although it is in the background.
Lets say Coca-Cola is endorsing the Olympics, they didnt say a thing about the drink, but they are there in the background, its working.
As said before, you must attack at all fronts, combine them all together and you will get a destinction by the costumers between you and your competitors, that is what we are all looking for.

You know, the two are quite similar. I think that the defining difference would be that advertising is generally considered to be using some sort of media: radio, print, internet, television, etc. Promotion tends to be a bit more open, like buying a bunch of helium balloons with your business name on them, and passing them out to your little customers. Promotional items tend to be things with your company name printed on them, like pens, hats, etc.
It's probably pretty much a technicality, at least from a tax standpoint. Accountants generally lump advertising and promotion together (we're quite a lazy lot, actually!).

Hi,
I think both are the same meaning... They are used to get visitors. Maybe promotion is used to promote a certain product, while advertising is used more to advertise using ads and adverts...
Same words: Free methods to do both at:
