You want to make intergers out of the fraction 1/4 2/5 4/7 5/8 by multiplying each fraction by the same integer n. What is the smallest n that will work.

4 is a factor of 8, so you don't have to use it again, but 5,7 and 8 have no factors in common, so to eliminate them all you would need to use 5x7x8. I leave the multiplication to you. The result will be n.

.multiply the bottoms of the fractions by each other
4*5*7*8
then divide the result by 2
if that result can be divided by the bottom number EVENLY
then divide it again by 2. until it can't be divided evenly by all the bottom numbers.... the last number divisable by all evenly is the number your looking for.

In this case 280

4*5*7*8=1120

1120/2=560
560/2=280 this is the smallest number than can be divided by
all the numbers (4,5,7 & 8) evenly.

So 280 is your common denominator.
