Possibly...nobody is going to want to do a test like that where the baby could maybe be harmed. I've heard that playing soothing music at certain times is beneficial for when the baby is a toddler and learning motor skills and even as an adult. I wouldn't recommend yelling as it is not soothing, and although it might not harm the baby physically, it could affect the baby later in life.

babies can hardly hear anything while in the womb. the only voice they can hear is their mother's; and that's only minimally. sounds coming from something other than the mother will most likely not be heard.

I don't know if yelling *affects* their hearing, but I know they can hear. Whenever my toddler son comes at me crying loudly and whining, it seems to wake my unborn daughter up and she starts kicking at me. It's like they're fighting already, and she isn't even born yet!

no...the sound not only has to travel through your body, but also through all the amniotic fluid, so baby will hear muffled sounds and feel vibrations, which are not loud enough to damage hearing

They can hear from about 4 months gestation, so loud noises do startle them.
