Enter the bureaucrats, the true rulers of the United Nations, and on the payroll of the Russian Federation, I might add. This is why Kofee Annan's strength disappeared.

Before answering - bear in mind that the UN also includes tens of thousands peacekeepers (who heere is prepared to stand up & get shot at, to keep the peace), UNICEF & the WHO - to mention just a few branches of the UN..
The UN wasn't simply set up as some deluded soul's World Government. it plays a valuable role doing the jobs that don't make the media very often - but save tens of thousands of lives.
There are people alive today on this planet - just because of the decisions made by Kofi Annan - anyone answering the question (criticizing Kofi) tell us how many people today are alive just because of YOU. What have YOU done today, for someone else.

I think he should have been held more accountable for the Oil for Food fiasco. I also believe that he has a really hard job, having to represent the West and the African League and League of Arab Nations, etc. I believe that he should stand behind the Security Council more. In short, he has a hard job, but I don't think he's the best choice to handle it.
