boss blurts before everyone during a get together that you are master of your own domain - how do we interpret

during a get together - while planning to go to a pub from a restaurant, if the boss asks whether you want to share a cab, or take the whole cab..immdtly if he comments to X about you that you are master of your own domain and checks with X whether he understood what he meant.....
how do we interpret it.. is he giving a cue....is it something that we can ignore...
