It describes your entire world. How long it takes to get to work, what your gas mileage is, how much you can spend, how much you pay for your car and house loans, how much you need to save for retirement, how the stop lights are timed on your street, how big the pipes are to your house, how the cable TV system is designed, how the internet assigns addresses to effectively move data, how many cashiers are needed at lunch time at McDonalds, how airplanes are scheduled at airports, how much each of those airplane tickets cost ... Well, you get the picture.

Oh my, there are so many ways math is used every day. My 84-year old mother and I went shopping today. Here, are some of the ways we used math: 1) Telling the time, how many hours it took to do our shopping, 2) Paying for items purchased and counting the change, 3) Measuring items to fit in particular spaces, 4) Buying more than one of some items, 5) Reconciling our receipts with the budgeted amount of money for groceries, household goods, toiletries, clothing and eating out.
And, I also did some shopping over the internet where I had to correct the amount charged because it did not agree with what had been represented. Thankfully, my correction was well received, which may not always be the case.
Sometimes, math is extremely important in legal cases, so it is good to keep important documents such as pay stubs, with lots of math related items on them. One time my father was given a parking ticket for being someplace he couldn't have been because he was working and his vehicle was parked in the parking lot the whole time he was working. Because he had his pay stub, he was able to prove his case and the parking ticket was canceled. Perhaps the officer who issued the ticket made a mistake in his math.
Well, I could go on and on. But, I hope you get the point. There is not a day that goes by that I do not use math in some way. It is just as important as language!

SO you know how much your gas mileage is, so you can figure out a budget. So you know that Buy one Get one is not always is the same as 50% off if both items are the same price.

So you will understand the cost of a loan for a car, or a credit card or a mortgage. So you will know how big a room is, how much paint or carpeting you need. So you can make a recipe, or double it or cut it in 1/2,

So you will know where the best buy is for dog food-The buy 10 - 30 lb bags for one price to get one for free at PetCo or is it cheaper to buy the 38 pound bag at Sam's for a different price.

So you can figure out the best plan for a cell phone.

Doing well in math means that you graduate from high school and can go to college. Graduating form college means that you can get a job working on wall street instead of asking "would you like fries with that" for the rest of your life.

Just think of it as an obstacle you have to deal with in order to get a job that pays $100,000 a year.

Everybody is telling you how you can use it....I am telling you where it will get you.

i don't know, what is your life like?

most people's lives include money, bank mortgages, car payments, etc

many people's lives include decorating, wall papering, carpeting, etc

some people's lives include jobs like engineering, nursing, accounting, etc

some people's lives include helping their kids with homework (kids who want to grow up to be doctors or whatever)

some people's lives include cooking or other recipe formulation manipulation

some people think math is fun

I have no idea what your life is like, but if you don't plan to spend it all sitting in your bedroom in your parent's house playing on Yahoo, there is a good chance that some math skills may come in handy

math is power

MATH NOT ONLY HELPS YOU WITH HANDLING MONEY, IT ALLOWS YOU TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO COMPARE DIFFERENT PACKAGES OF THE SAME TYPE PRODUCT IN THE STORE TO DETERMINE WHICH IS THE BEST DEAL. ALSO TRY TO HAGGLE A DEAL FOR A CAR WHEN A FAST TALKING SALESMAN IS TRYING TO MAKE THE DEAL SWEETER FOR HIM AND HIS BOSS. MATH IS A USEFUL TOOL TO HELP YOU NAVIGATE PAST PITFALLS IN YOUR LIFE. EXCEPT FOR ALGEBRA, EVEN THOUGH I ENJOYED THE COURSE, I HAVE NEVER HAD A USE FOR IT SINCE.
