For instance, I have a Samsung YP-T7JZ MP3 player which only charges through a USB port (Samsung sells no other adapters for it), my question is, can I buy & use something like an Apple iPod USB Power Adapter (which has a wall plug on one side & a USB plug on the other side) to use when I don't have access to a computer, or would it either fry my player or just not charge it at all?

I usually use them universally. Most of the time it works. You can also get this device at Radioshack called I-go. it is a universal power supply and you buy the removable tips that you need.
