why are humans growing smaller and smaller over the years?

People are actually getting taller/bigger. That can be proved in anthropology statistics. The gene for shortness is dominant over the gene for height. Your family must be marrying short- gened people.

Size is a genetic inheritance. There have been influxes of races of people genetically shorter into America in I'd say the past 20 years or so (if that is where you are from). I am taller than the average woman and it is in my genes, there are tall people on my father's side of the family. There are bigger people out there but so many smaller people genetically are reproducing at astronomical rates.
On a different note, people are growing fatter and fatter (i.e. bigger and bigger) over the years so maybe you have it backwards.
