think of five modern Grendels: differemt prooblems that have faces the world todat. then thinkg og the Beowulfs upon which the world relies ( or on which it has relied) to fight them. for example, during world war II, the axis powers were like grendel, and the allies were like beowulf. Is this how your teacher gave you the assignment? The reason I ask is that it really oversimplifies Grendel and Beowulf.

I recommend looking back at the assignment sheet to see if the teacher gives more specific associations for the two characters.

If it's just problems and leaders you're supposed to find, you have a super-easy task. Look for diseases that have been cured, poverty that has been overcome, etc.

Here's one with a twist for you: Check out Matt Wagner's graphic novel, Grendel:Devil's Legacy. Our heroine takes on the persona of a criminal mastermind named Grendel in order to stop a man who's been stealing children and killing them. Sort of plays the story backwards, now doesn't it?

well, you know the cons would put their hero bush up there with the evil sadaam or binladin. And the demoncrats would pretty much have bush there along with the other evils of the world.
