Because the sun is a symbol of happiness and bright days. That is why every time the sun is drawn more especially by children, it is shown as a round figure with rays and a happy face.
Isn't it people who advise lonely and depressed people, would always say, "Don't worry for the sun will still shine on you." which means also that the sun means hope.
