Why do some people cling to this notion of Americans settling their differences and getting along?

yes it would be nice, but seeing as how don't live in the land of puppy dogs and fairy tales, we are forced to accept the reality that the United states is split down the middle and is ultimately going to have to choose, as all modern day nations are going to be forced to do:

will we head towards a progressive half-socialist nation in the foundation of canada and sweden

or towards a fundamentalist borderline third world s**t-hole like iran where instead of spending our excess on social programs we spend it on military and propaganda.

pick your poison, i could care less at this point, just don't give me this "why can't we all get along" crap,

You need to realize that all this is due to greed, who has what and how much. How can I take it from you and put it in my pocket. And underlying all this is fear. Fear that is instigated by our government and religion. The Democrats give hope to the poor and Republicans hope to the rich. And God is suppose to take all the pain away caused by both. Both parties want power and money. It is a case of the lesser of two evils. However, there is hope. There is hope that the American People take responsibility for their lives and lead government, not the other way around. Unfortunately both parties have done a good job in creating dependence and fear. You, yes you need to tell people they do make a difference and if enough people do that, we will be in a better place.
