I agree with Rickster’s advice, in that chemicals are not necessary, in regards to the burner ports, over time they can become oversized causing poor flame quality, so be careful to remove only rust and not metal. If you are storing the unit at the end of the season coat the burners with a light rust preventing oil, to protect them from any further rust while not in use. Just remember when you take it out of storage for the first use of the next season, you will need to allow the oil to burn off before cooking on it.

Don't bother with solvents. Simply take the burner out,
1. wire brush it on the out side,
2. use a stainless steel bottle type brush to clean the venturi (tube where gas & air mix) available at better hardware stores or some auto parts stores,
3. clear the burner ports (holes where gas burns) of rust with a drill bit of the appropiate size.
4. put it back and 5., when do we eat?

If you build a really hot fire out of firewood and throw the cast iron piece into the fire it will burn all the rust off. Make sure it is cast iron and not some inferior metal. Inferior metals, cast aluminum will melt if you burn it.
If you really want a solvent, You could use Naval Jelly. You can find it at Home Depot or Lowe's.

If you know some one with a pool ask them for some pool acid(ph adjuster) its H Cl and will disolve the rust right off(assumeing there is still some metal) and make it like new. BUT be careful it will burn your skin (especialy if any cuts are present(wear gloves)) Then rinse off with water.Oh don't breathe the fumes. Its an old oil well tool rebuilding trick.

while you are able to sparkling forged iron cookware with modern-day dish detergents, this deprives the pan of it is organic nonstickproperties. in case you will desire to bathe with a detergent you will desire to then coat the interior and out of doorways of the pan with cooking oil and place in a heat oven to treatment, this wil no longer in basic terms avert rust yet will return a number of the pan's ability to cook dinner without food sticking to it.
