Trust and compromise.
Both parties have to trust one another otherwise a relationship will be full of jealousy and accusations which leads to divorce.
Both parties must also compromise and work together instead of thinking for themselves only. You see, when you're married, it's not about just you anymore; instead you should think of the well being for your spouse and work to compromise so both can be happy.

WE do not own each other...we have to work every day to keep our love at home, not walking out the door. Act as if you are NOT married, that he/she can walk at any minute, and all that is done in the home, house, will change. WE each will make sure our love will be their tomorrow with extra attention, kindness, love, passion, and caring. Good luck and love in life.

We've been married for 15 years. We have never had one argument because we treat each other like we would our best friend. We compromise. If he wants to do one thing and I another, we check to see whose feelings are the stronger and then with that person's idea.
I treat my husband like gold. I deal with issues when they arise - which is the best thing to do. That way, you don't build up anger.
So, the one thing I'd suggest is respect. Marriage is a two way street. Of course, you also have to have trust, fidelity, and fun. Yes, remember to have fun!!!!
