I am taking pain medicine for back pain. I was watching the news today about how vicodin can cause breathing problems. I only take my pain meds (Lartab 7.5) as directed. Does Lortab contain the drug Vicodin? Are they the same drug?

Lortab and Vicodin are both brand name medications. The active ingredients in both are hydrocodone and tylenol. The lortab contains more of each of these medications. Yes if you take more than the max. dose daily it can cause breathing problems this is due to the hydrocodone. If you do not take more than what your Dr. has prescribed and only for pain you have no need to worry.

yeah vicodin and lortab are the same thing, theyre just made by different companies. it does cause breathing problems, but usually only causes problems if youre taking more than directed or drinking a lot of alcohol/taking other depressive medications along with it. ask your pharmacist if you have questions

Same thing. I personally am allergic to Lortab. Many pain meds can cause breathing probs, but they are rare. I have to take percocet for my pain probs, and like all narcotics, they can also cause liver damage and can become addictive. Talk to your pharmacist or doc about these things if you have more questions. Good Luck and I hope your back pain goes away.

Lortab is hydrocodone. It is addictive and mood altering. Why not try Ultrcet? It is not anywhere near as addicting and eases the pain of withdrawl from the opiates while still a great painkiller. You are taking an opiate. Vicodan can be the devil, sucks the most innocent people in.

Good luck.

Hydrocodone is the generic equivalent to Vicodin. Lortab is something else.

If you are concerned about any of the drugs you are taking, go to the drugstore where your script was filled and ask the pharmacist to give you detailed information concerning the drug in question. He/she will be happy to oblige.

Lortab and Vicodan are both brand names and contain similar ingredient (hydrocodone, I think).

Don't worry about breathing difficulties with them unless you have an underlying disease which causes problems. The main risk is getting addicted to them causing difficulties when you stop taking them. If you need them, take them and then wean off when your back problems are resolved.
Good luck.

It's good to look up any medicine you take, on a website listing drugs and reactions. Find all the side effect. We all need to be proactive in our health and in the medicines we take. Breathing problems would be a bad side effect that you should report before taking another pill.
