My family member who is a 43 year old woman is currently dating an 18y/o guy and they claim they are in love with eachother. I don't think it's healthy, but at the same time I don't want to rain on their parade. What do you all think - is this real love or is the relationship totally wrong?

Well on one hand I say "Good for her", but on the other hand I can't help but wonder what an 18yo is doing with a woman more than twice his age. I can think of a number of reasons & most of them aren't good ones. The only good one that I can come up with is that he truly loves her & wants to be with her for all the right reasons. There's only one thing we outsiders can do until they give us a reason to think otherwise is give them the benefit of the doubt, & wish them well.

It would be a very rare instance for this man and woman to actually be in LOVE. Perhaps in lust or having co-dependency issues. Any 43-year-old woman who needs to go to the teen set to find love has got problems. And that 18-year-old boy would have to be pretty damned mature to be 'in love' at all. These two cannot have much in common and their relationship will likely end in disaster.
I'm sure I'll get people crying about the fact that they are 18 and know what love is. They don't. I didn't when I was that age and thought I did. It takes time to know yourself and you have to in order to really love another person. I really 'liked' people at that age, but love, it was not.

Creepy is all I can say.

Well, if they are in love, they're in for a tough relationship. They'll have to go through a lot of crap from other people. It's not likely that they are truly in love and if they are it's really not likely to last because of said hardships. However, I do think you should support them, unless you have some specific and important reason not to. Trust me, they'll need it.

Well, it is not usual for this to happen, between people of these ages usually don't have much in common, but sometimes people can surprise you. I believe that this is possible.

Yes, it is possible, but not usual. If they are both happy, be happy for them. They are of legal age to do whatever they want.
