Risks of belly button piercing can include painful infection of the abdomen and blood poisoning. Improperly sterilized equipment can spread infections, so make sure you go to a nice place to get it done. An amateur body piercer can also cause nerve damage or scarring. An infected piercing hurts, looks red and swollen, can weep and may feel hot to the touch. If your piercing looks infected, see a medical professional or body piercer for treatment.
Don't worry about it too much, that's the WORST that can really happen. I have mine done and there weren't any complications.
But remember- a completely healed belly button piercing can take up to one and a half years. Belly button piercings can be difficult to heal because of exposure to poorly chlorinated waters. Also clothing and sweat can irritate the piercing. Factors that can slow the healing process include bad quality jewelry, stress, illness, lack of care and a poor diet. If not cared for properly a belly button piercing can take 1-2 years to heal and is an easy target for recurring infection.

Good luck =)

I've never heard of anyone dying from a belly button ring lol. Yeah if you don't clean it after it's pierced it can get infected, but if that happens all you have to do is keep cleaning it, and the worst thing that would happen would be you just take it out, let it close up, and re-pierce it. I have numerous piercings and a few have gotten infected before. It's no big deal, you just put some alcohol on it a few times a day, clears it right up. My belly button was actually probably the least painful piercing I have gotten. I was back to sleeping on my stomach 48 hours later and it healed within a couple of weeks. Find a good, clean place to get it done (make sure they use brand new needles), and spray it a few times a day with a disinfecting spray. And be sure to follow all the instructions the piercer gives you. Most all piercing salons have sprays you can buy. Also be sure to wash your belly button with antibacterial soap in the shower everyday. You'll be fine and you should definitely go for it! It's no big deal trust me.

It can become red, irritated, pus can come from the piercing and definitely infected!!! Be very careful!! I had mine done 7 years ago. (Still have it with no problems at all) The worst problem I had was getting it caught on clothing. Make sure you wear a hoop at first. A hoop will move freely when cleaning it and it hardly gets snagged on anything. When you clean it, use antibacterial soap and turn the hoop, make sure to rinse it well. Make sure you soak the piercing with warm salt water. ( NOT TOO MUCH SALT!!!) And keep your hands off of it until it heals completely. Just fill a small glass halfway or less with warm water and salt, quickly place it over your piercing and make sure it's on tight, lie down for a few minutes, rinse well. Seriously...this works. Good luck with your piercing!

there is really no side affects. You just have to make sure you keep it really clean so it does not get infected. I had my done for 9yrs and thn the piercing hole eventually spilt open as it got really thin. I got it done again as it felt really weird not having it there, and the same thing happend. So I have gave up in the end. Good luck

Nice, respectable guys might pass you up because they think you're trying to come across as easy because maybe you are easy. Ever think of that side effect?
