I reallly hate to ask this question with the stereotypes that all gays are pedophiles but there's this girl that I found out likes me and I kinda like her too, but she is 17 and I am 22. 17 is the legal age of consent in the state I live in, but if we started dating and her parents didn't like her dating girls could they still have me arrested because even though she is at the age of consent, she is still not 18? And before anyone says get someone my own age, this girl is not only mature for her age, but for any age. She has way more sense that girls my age and older. She has the same type of goals in life that I do. But that really is beside the point. I genuinely like this girl and she likes me too. We have a lot in common. And it isn't that I don't want to date girls my age, it's just that she happens to be the right girl that came at the right time. But could I still get arrested?

I have already done research and the age of consent is 17, no matter if it's boy-girl,boy-boy, or girl-girl. We haven't had sex, yet, we aren't even dating. But if we did start dating waiting until she's 18 is something that I would do.

If you are afraid of how your/her family will react then here is some advice.
Please hear (read) me out.
She is17, If she digs you and is the one for you at this time in your life then she/you should not mind waiting for a few months. Less than a year, its nothing! Take this time to really get to know her.
I know it sounds corny but she is a baby after all and you will have to make adjustments in your lifestyle if you want to date a person who can not even legally drink.
Please remember that her parents are not only dealing with her new found Independence and sense of self BUT their daughter likes girls. Even in this day and age people still do not get it. All they can see is "Oh my God, no grandchildren" and What will the family think" Silly right? But such is life. Proceed with caution and do not make her choose between you or her parents. Just be cool, stand back and watch her parents hang themselves with their own actions. You will be more desirable to her as a shoulder to cry on than an aggressive, parent hating girlfriend.
Good luck sweetie!
Oh yeah! If you wait till she is 18 that could be a hellafied birthday for her! Yummy!

It does vary from state to state, the age of consent might be 17, but only if the other person is 18 or under. and if the other person is over 18, the age of consent would probably be 18. Each state is different, and there are so many variables and laws that could come to bite you in the rear.
If you can wait, do so. If you can't wait, do a lot of research, if you get the chance, ask a policeman who deals with sex crimes to explain the consent laws for your state. Be careful with dating people under 18, often times they are too young to have a firm grasp of what they want out of life, she may be the rare exception, but young love rarely is forever love.

The laws are different from state to state and country to country, and in some places there are discrepancies between the age of consent for homosexual and heterosexual sex acts. Put "age of consent" in a web browser and see if you can find the Wikpedia article.
In general, if indeed she is of the age of consent, and you don't hold a position of authority over her (like a teacher, clergy person, police officer, etc) there should be no problem.

Yes, if your jurisdiction has the legal age at 18 her parents can press charges & you can be arrested. The charge would be statutory rape (statute =law). The law in this case would prohibit anyone from having sex with a minor (under the age of 18 if that's how the jurisdiction defined it). If you have merely been dating & haven't had sex it might prevent you from being convicted, but it won't prevent you from being arrested if charges are filed against you.

wait until she is 18, most of the consent laws only apply to male& female relationships not same sex relationships. best bet would be to look up the local and state statutes for your particular area. Better safe than sorry!

I think if she is at age of consent then you cannot get into any trouble. However, her parents may kick her out if they're unhappy about it so you both need to be prepared for the consequences of what may or may not happen if you decide to go forward.

stop being thirsty. if you really like her and she's the right one, why cant you wait! if she is the one it will be worth the wait. spend the time getting to know each other unless you cant wait and then maybe you will be the one thats not worth it. first get to know her and then GET TO KNOW HER. sex just complicates things when it happens to fast anyway. you dont know what the future holds. BE COOL, STUPID and you will keep her forever.
oh yeah, and your a s s can get arrested

You may need to do some serious googling on this. But personally whether straight or gay, 17 is a minor. I would wait until she is older.
