We have two ipods. One is formatted for a mac and the other is formatted for windows. I would like to transfer the songs from the mac formatted ipod to the windows formatted ipod. Is anyone familiar with macs and ipods and how do I transfer all of my songs onto one ipod???

I'm not sure about iPod, but with all other hard drives, the FAT file system is compatible with both Mac and PC. On your Mac, use Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and set the formating to "MS-Dos". It will automatically choose FAT-32 (or FAT-16 for volumes under 4 gig), and will be compatible with both Mac and PC.

The mac formatted ipod must be formatted for windows (mac format will see both mac & windows, whereas windows formatted ipods will only see windows) - this will require using the ipod software (not itunes - the actual ipod updater software) to reformat the ipod - you will loose all data on that ipod, even then you may encounter problems transferring information to the newly foramated ipod (associating more than one ipod with itunes can be a hassle) for real user knowledge about do's and don'ts check out the following link

All iPods are formatted exactly the same. Merging the libraries? You might want to refer to Apple's support page for that kind of information. I've never heard of anyone wanting to consolidate two libraries.
