If he can pick it up and put it in his mouth on his own, it's good. He'll show you he's ready to advance textures when he's ready. Some kids his age eat macaroni and cooked peas by themselves (because they can pick them up and put them in their mouths!) and others gag on applesauce.
Offer him different foods at mealtime - you MUST be right there when he's eating them. DO NOT give grapes, hot dogs, or nuts of any kind - big choking hazard.
Give him a handful of Cheerios on his high chair tray. They're small and get soft quickly so he probably won't choke on those. He'll play with them and probably eat them.
Good luck!

i think the best way to find out when hes ready for easy-to-eat finger foods (ones the melt somewhat quick in the mouth) are the baby cookies. That way they get into the habit of holding their finger foods and taking bites and chewing properly.
My guy is 7.5 months and loves the toddler biscuits and baby mum-mums (rice rusks).
Just be there to watch him, and experiment a little, find what works for your guy.
good luck :)

If you don't give, nothing will happen. Just make sure you feed him his baby food and formula. He just might not be ready to eat finger foods yet. Try again in another month or two.
