It wants food. Most guinea pig owners delight in that sound. If it is driving you crazy, perhaps a quieter pet would be better for you?

They squeal when they are hungry. I raised many guinea pigs when I was young. Besides the store bought alphalfa pellets for rabbits and guinea pigs I fed him bread, lettuce tomatoes and other veggie snacks in very small amounts. They were kept in the fridge. Well needless to say when the fridge opened, so did the guinea pigs eyes and then the squeal.

It's a normal piggie sound! They often squeal at you in greeting, hunger, or fear.

Are they in heat? I've only heard them make that sound when they were mating.....like rabbits.

That's how they communicate. If you're the one feeding it, it probably knows you, and wants you to feed it again, although it may not need it.
